Post-Christmas Value: Forget the Stores and Hit the Tables!

In the last two issues of Poker Player, I covered some important aspects of reraising preflop in no-limit hold’em. Those two articles were far from exhaustive, and you’ll be hearing more from me in future issues regarding preflop reraising. But since Christmas has just passed, I thought I’d spike the eggnog with some moonshine and shift gears.

Black Friday rang in another holiday spending orgy. And just when we thought it was time to rest up for November 2008 to do the same damn thing all over again, we have stores tempting us with Post-Christmas sales. All I have to say is “Bah, humbug!”

But in the important spirit of turning negatives into positives, let’s focus on the word that drives holiday shoppers to endure long lines, sit in excessive traffic, and take on $1,000s worth of debt: value. Value is great, but there’s no need to risk our physical or mental health over it. Fortunately, we poker players don’t need to pull all-nighters in the freezing cold to eek out some good value. When it comes to deriving maximum value at the poker tables, just a few moments of extra thought are needed...
